We began this series on January 11, 2017 and continues to this day.

It chronicles our ongoing trek through the Bible beginning in Genesis, though our trek has not followed a 100% traditional order.

We have attempted to keep books whose contents are related in time, as much together as possible with some noteworth exceptions.

The specific chapters covered are NOT usually part of the title of each post making specific scriptures a little tricky to find by a simple “search”.

To compensate for that we have a page dedicated to this series which lists each of the scriptures we’ve covered so far as a link. It is our hope that this will help aid you in your studies….God Bless!

God Prayers

Praying God centered Prayers

One of the reocurring themes we see throughout the Old Testament and the Pslams in particular are the way the Isrealites prayed God centered prayers. There were of course, needs expressed and requests made, but a great deal of the time the REASON and MOTIVE behind the prayer was the character and the Great Name of God.

Phrases like, “For the sake of Your great name…” do this or that. The request was there, but the purpose of its fulfillment was God’s agenda on the earth.

Jesus also prayed this way – You kingdom come, Your will be done. Oh if we were learn to decentralize ourselves from our prayers and make God and His kingdom the central focus of our petitions, we would find ourselves in a position like the great patriarchs of old to recieve answers.

David Prayers

Thus ends the prayers of King David, son of Jesse

Tonight we ended Book II of Psalms which largely contains prayers of David and events during hislifetime.

We also began Book III which is almost immediately obvious because the tone and topics change from personal deliverances to cries for national deliverance.

Psalms 73-89 were composed during the time between David’s life and the post exile period of silence which span 400 years. During this time northern Israel went into Assyrian captivity followed by the Babylonian captivity of all of Israel.

Zeal

Zeal for Your house has consumed Me

Many of these Psalms are prophetic in nature and point to Messiah either in His earthly ministry or in His Millennial Kingdom.

Several quotes and scenarios from Jesus and His life crop up in these Psalms which are recorded in the Gospels.

All of this shows the complexity of the Psalms which, like the Prophets, often reveal an immediate fulfillment and application as well as a future Messianic one.

God Pour Heart Refuge

Pour out your heart… God is our Refuge

We as humans were not made for theology, religious practices or even morality for moralty’s sake. We were created for intimacy in relationship. In the midst of this are all of the above, but they spring out of intimacy, admiration, love and devotion to God – they were never intended to replace it.

It is therefore no wonder at all that while reverence and loyalty are in fact primary in our union with God – there are times we need the understanding and comfort of a father and friend.

This passage not only affirms this as a genuine need, but we are unashamedly invited to come and pour out our hearts to Almighty God, Who also is our Father and friend, if we are devoted to Him in trust and obedience.

“Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is our refuge. Selah” ~ Psalm 62:8

Edomite Aramean

When an Edomite is a Aramean

These psalms are interesting. They do in fact teach us about God, covenant with Him, that He is faithful and true… but it also introduces some opportunities to better understand the scriptures as a whole and some interesting challenges in investigating how a descendant of Abram could be an Aramean.
