Today we took a few baby steps further in our study of Paul’s encourangement and instruction to Timothy regarding his assurance in the testimony of Jesus and the integrity of his own. As we closed Paul encouraged Timothy to take his part of the sufferings associated with the gospel by the power of the Holy Spirit within him.

Paul strengthens the Testimony of Christ in Timothy
Timothy seems to have been a bit of a momma’s boy. This was not bad, he was mightily used of God in Paul’s ministry. However, Timothy tended towards timidity which Paul addressed in both of his letters of encouragement to him.
Both Paul’s “type A” personality and Timothy’s timidity needed God’s grace to make them vessels of special purpose.
God does not rely upon our abilities. What He requires are hearts of submission and devotion which HE can empower.

In this teaching we take a look at both sides of the coin.
What makes a person in right standing with God is thinking His thoughts which includes accepting His Word and trusting in it.
Thinking and meditating upon God’s word is a major component of transformation into Christ’s likeness. I begins with thinking His thoughts which steers our lives towards walking in His ways.
The same is true for those who think on what is ungodly.
What we set our minds upon, sets the coarse of our words and ways.
The reason for this study is to discover things we can do ON PURPOSE, to fascilitate the inward work of the Holy Spirit, conforming us to the image of Christ. To be deliberate in our cooperating with His work rather than making His job more difficult. In the end, we are looking to honor Christ and allow His kingdom to take up its rule within us.

In our learning how best to cooperate with the inner working of the precious Spirit of God Who has been given us, we turn our attention towards the power of God’s word.
Unlike mankind, God does not lie. Therefore anything God says is not only the truth, but also is the truth about Him. He speaks out of the abundance of His heart. According to Jesus the words of God are both spirit and life. They contain the power to transform our lives into the image of Christ as the Spirit reveals the Word of God to us. The Spirit Himself takes the logos of God’s word and breathes life into it as He reveals it to us making logos – rhema.
Line upon line, precpet upon precept, here a little there a little – we are transformed into the image if Christ which is unveiled to us in His word by the Holy Spirit of God!
