Ministry mind love

Ministry, Love & Renewing the Mind

There is a certain, yet not-so-obvious connection between renewing the mind, deepening in our knowing and experience in the Love of God and ministry. Though indirectly, most Christians who are very familiar with the passages we covered this morning would be passively aware of the connection, it would greatly surprise me if it is something they have really pieced together in a way which flows logically from one thing to the other.

Our two New Testament writers we read from this morning are Peter and Paul. Two very different men in terms of temperament and ministry, but both very much in step and agreement due to their being led by the Spirit’s influence in their teachings and letters.

Paul stresses the need for the renewing of the mind and setting our thoughts on spiritual things rather than being preoccupied with the affairs of this life. Peter encourages us to prepare our lives for the inevitable spiritual battles we have by assuming the same way of thinking as Jesus did in His earthly life. That such would lead us to victory over the flesh in regard to sin.

Then Peter presses the need for loving our fellow Christian with fervor and devotion, something Paul also stresses in regard to overcoming the flesh. Then they both – Peter in 1 Peter 4 and Paul in 1 Corinthians 12-14 – stress the need to be good stewards of the grace gifts God has given each one of us as expressions of the aforementioned brotherly love.

It is almost as if both letters were written in collaboration with each other or one was strongly influenced by the other due to the development and flow of the thoughts expressed in them.

In any case, this is the direction our lessons went this morning. Again, not an obvious development line upon line, but I think as you listen you will discover a pattern witnessed elsewhere in scripture which outlines similar movement from one thing to the next.

Spirit Edification Order Women

The Spirit brings Edification & Order – Part 2

In this session we are continuing to learn more about our relationship/partnetship with the Holy Spirit in ministry.

In this portion of Chapter 14 Paul bears down on the order and authority God established from creation and which MUST be observed by His children in all places, but in the church especially.

It is imperative to always come to God’s word without a bias and to say AMEN to ANYTHING He says PRIOR to beginning your study. Without this reverence for God, His word and His absolute sovereignty over His creation we open ourselves up to twisting the scriptures to our own agendas.

Perhaps this, more than most issues in scripture is a primary example of the need for this type of caution since it addresses issues of gender and authority.

I truly hope this lession will aid you not only in better understanding order in the church in the expression of the gifts, but even more importantly in coming to better know the Spirit of God with Whom we partner in the work of the ministry of the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Spirit Edification Order

The Spirit brings Edification & Order – Part 1

In this session we are continuing to learn more about our relationship/partnetship with the Holy Spirit in ministry.

The Corinthian church fell sort in no gift, but were very immarture Christians. Paul addresses all manner of disciplinary issues to this church before addressing their zeal for Spiritual Gifts which they excercised with little to no guidance or maturity – seeking to be seen more than to edify the church.

In Chapter 14 Paul bears down on this expression of immaturity and explains that if one is truly being led by the Spirit of God, there will be order in their assemblies. Paul presses limits on the expression of the gifts and the need to each be used IN TURN rather than all at once. Again the major focus being edification rather than confusion.

I truly hope this lession will aid you not only in better understanding order in the church in the expression of the gifts, but even more importantly in coming to better know the Spirit of God with Whom we partner in the work of the ministry of the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Judah Ephraim Zechariah

Judah is a bow, Ephraim is arrows, Greece the Target!

Thru the Bible: Zechariah 9&10

Nearly 200 years from the time of this prophecy Greece would run a circuit all around Judah, making war and conquoring but leave Israel untouched. Tyre was to be a major part of that campaign. The last land to be actually conquored would be Persia itself thus bringing the empire’s dominion to an end all under the leadership of Alexandar the Great.

This prophecy is a starting point. It moves on past Alexandar and the Grecean Empire to the time of the Maccabean revolt when Israel would achieve independance from Greece, just before Rome took their place.

All of this was prophecied by Daniel MANY years before Zechariah, but Zechariah’s served both as a witness to these things AND added more details about this time.

In this prophecy greater Israel, meaning the Northern Kingdom is represented in Ephraim and the southern kingdom in Judah.
