Series: …but by My Spirit Pt. 23
Message – Knowing the Holy Spirit through Sharing the Gospel
Living in the Kingdom
Point #5 We brag on our Father through sharing the Gospel.
Bragging on our Father is the most natural thing in the world for a child of God and in so doing we are preaching a compelling Gospel by our testimony.
I) What does Gospel mean? To bring an announcement of good news.
First used concerning Salvation by angels.
Luke 2:10-14,
“Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.”
The word translated “good tidings” is also translated by the words…
- Preach
- Gospel
II) What is preached? Jesus & our reconciliation to God through Him.
John 3:14-19,
“(14) And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, (15) that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. (16) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
(17) For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (18) “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (19) And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
1Cor. 1:22-24,
“(22) For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; (23) but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, (24) but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.”
2Cor. 4:5-7,
“(5) For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. (6) For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (7) But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.”
Acts 8:5,
“(5) Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them.”
Acts 19:11-13,
“(11) Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, (12) so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them. (13) Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.”
Col. 1:24-29,
“(24) I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church, (25) of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God which was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, (26) the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. (27) To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (28) Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. (29) To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.”
Question > What does the Holy Spirit convince the unbelievers heart of?
Answer > What the Father has done to restore us to Himself through His Son Jesus. (Good News)
Question > What kind of relationship does God want with man?
Answer > One of knowing and trusting!
Question > How do we know that?
Answer > Jesus came to bring and preach ETERNAL LIFE through TRUST.
The Gospel is about Knowing God
“(49) For I have not spoken on My Own authority, but the Father Who sent Me has Himself given Me a commandment–what to say and what to speak. And I know that His commandment is Eternal Life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told Me.”~ John 12:49-50
Life is found in Christ
“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about Me, But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.” ~ John 5:39
Question > Saved from what?
Answer > Destruction which according to 2Thess. 1:6-10 is the state of those who do not know God. Their destruction is in part defined by eternally existing separated from the presence of the Lord.
2Thess. 1:6-10,
“(6) since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, (7) and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, (8) in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9) These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, (10) when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed.”
Question > Saved to what?
Answer > God – eternal life!
III) So what are we bragging about?
Our Father!
2Pet. 1:16,
“(16) For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.”
We are testifying of WHO WE KNOW BY WAY OF EXPERIENCE!
1Jn 4:13-17,
“(13) By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. (14) And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. (15) Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. (16) And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. (17) Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.”
1Cor. 2:4-5,
“(4) And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, (5) that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”
Our next message in two weeks will be on point #6…
