Thru the Bible Old Testament Review – Genesis Pt. 2

We ended last week with the division of the godly lineage of Seth and the ungodly lineage of Cain and how the righteous intermarrying with the unrighteous filled the earth with wickedness so that in the end only one man possessed favor with God – namely Noah.

We skipped the whole Nephilim thing since we covered it in detail all those years ago and know, as surely as anything could be known, that angels were not in any way involved in this other than being a demonic influence towards evil even as they are today.

Angels are created beings. God established a breeding radius AT creation which made one kind genetically incompatible with another kind so that everything was restricted by this unbreakable law from creation. In order to circumvent this an angel would have had to be able to just take on a touchable, physical form, they would have to actually create human bodies. 

There are three unavoidable problems with this:

• God has clearly stated that NOTHING has ever been created without Him. He ALONE has creative power.
• The only way for angels to be able to procreate with humans is by being an exact match genetically which would make their offspring human not some sort of chimera.
• Thirdly, and perhaps even most importantly, in order for any offspring to be alive, it would have to receive its spirit from God Who alone creates spirits and God would not participate in wickedness, ergo it would not work. Furthermore, these spirits would have had to have been created in a fallen state, given no choice of their own. This is NOT the creative work of God!

Furthermore, this is precisely the type of doctrine the devil loves. It takes the focus off of God and more specifically off of Jesus and places it on angels and rebellion. The narrative empowers angels as real contenders to God’s plan which is laughable. The only angelic rebellion we can tack down with 100% certainty, ending immediately with an eviction from heaven and an eventual eternal death sentence. They never did and never could stand a chance against their Creator.

Additionally, IF God had in fact somehow not only agreed to let this evil miracle take place – so much so that He gave the offspring fallen angelic spirits to animate their bodies, He would have destroyed them all in the flood. If this was truly the reason for the flood, then God would never have permitted it to take place again, and yet, Nephilim show up again generations after the flood.

In short this storyline does not make sense, it does not follow logic, it complicates the Biblical text without a cause and it requires the breaking of known, clearly stated laws of reproduction that even now, human scientists have found they inextricably bound by.

Finally, if “giants” were what was meant by the text there was a far better Hebrew word to use which only means giant. But this Hebrew word is most often used metaphorically in much the same way as we would use the phrase “larger than life”. And THIS fits both the narrative and Jewish historical understandings of the passage. 

The resurfacing of this idea in our age was completely predictable! It falls in line with the warnings Paul gave the believers in Colossae a warning against an overemphasize on angels even to the point of worshiping them and that all such doctrines come from being “puffed up without reason by [their] sensuous minds”. In other words, such doctrines arise from prideful ignorance. 

Last week’s lesson addresses this head on – the Bible is God’s book which tells His story and is about Jesus. Any other fanciful interpretation which places the spotlight on any created thing is patently a misinterpretation – ergo, a doctrine of demons.

I have NEVER heard anyone preach on this and it results in either Jesus being glorified or souls turning to Him. It is therefore a useless and in fact, dangerous doctrine. It also assigns a reason to the flood which is unbiblical. Genesis does not say that God brought the flood due to “the wickedness of angels and men on the earth”, it only mentions the wickedness of men and God’s lament that He had ever even created mankind. If angels were part of this consideration, He would have said so!

After this we covered the ark, the flood, the covenant of God with Noah, the new conditions of the post-flood world and the beginning of the new human family on earth.

Regarding the Flood

The bible is not ambiguous regarding the what, why, how, when and where of the flood.

• It specifically mentions the deep subterranean chambers in which vast amounts of water were held in chambers. That these were broken open which seem connected in terms of cause, with the windows of heaven opening.

• Specific details, times and locations reveal a literal historical narrative
  • Seven pairs (14 total) of every kind of “clean” animal and bird, but only one pair (2 total) of every kind of “unclean” animal.
    • This further illustrates that at least on some level the early world knew about these divisions of animals so that when Moses recorded the law regarding them generations after the flood, God was simply restating to His covenant people what all humans once knew.
  • “…150 days the waters were abated”
  • “The ark rested in the 7th month on top of the mountains of Ararat.“
• 1st thing Noah does upon leaving the ark was build an altar and offer sacrifice.
• Noah’s heart of worship and devotion in the offering of the sacrifice affected the heart of God.
• The Lord said IN HIS HEART “I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake –  even though the imagination of his heart is evil from youth to old age – I will never again strike down every living thing as I have done. As long as the earth endures seedtime – harvest, cold/heat, summer/winter and day/night will not cease.”

• God’s purposes never change…He again blesses His man – now, Noah and sons, with humanity’s initial charter “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth”.
• God pronounces animals as food and that fear regarding our reign over them would be upon them.
• We were commanded to DO NOT EAT BLOOD! Which is again, a pre-shout out to the Law. God never changes.
• Whoever sheds man’s blood – will die. 
• God makes and confirms a foundational promise to Noah, his sons and all life
  • Symbolized promise with sign of His bow in the clouds
  • God promises to remember upon seeing His bow in the clouds
  • God is watching earth.
• Animals and man now include meat in their diets
• Oceans now exist
• Huge mountain ranges now exist and begin to form due to tectonic shift.

Human Timeline

• For purposes of dating creation was approximately 4174B.C.. 
• The flood came 1,656 years after God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden. 
• The date of the flood was therefore approximately 2518B.C..
• The tower of Babel was only 100 years later in 2417B.C.
• Tracing the generational ages from the Flood to the time of Terah fathering his first son is 22 years (Genesis 11:10-24).
• Given the fact that Terah was 130 when Abram was born, derived from Genesis 11:32 and Genesis 12:4. Abrams’ birth would have been in 2166B.C.
• Since Noah lived 350 years after the flood, this means Noah would have died in 2168BC just 2 years before Abram was born.
• This also means that Job would have been born prior to the death of Noah as well since Ur was likely still nomadic during his lifetime as well as many other clues which point to a very early time period for Job. 

The New Family of Mankind

Noah is the last of the very long lived lineage of man – 950 years which has him living an additional 350 yrs. following flood making his death approximately 2168BC.

The beginnings of all the families of the earth are mentioned as descending through his sons Shem, Japheth and Ham.

Shem’s Descendants (The Near East and Mesopotamia)

• Elam: Settled in southwestern Iran (the Elamites).
• Asshur: Settled in the region of Assyria.
• Arpachshad: Ancestor of the Chaldeans and Hebrews.
• Lud: Associated with Lydia in Asia Minor.
• Aram: Settled in the region of Syria and Mesopotamia (the Arameans).

Japheth’s Descendants (Europe and Asia Minor)

• Gomer: Associated with early groups moving toward the Black Sea and Europe (like Cimmerians or Celts).
• Magog: Linked to northern regions, Scythian groups, and parts of Eastern Europe/Russia.
• Madai: Associated with the Medes and ancient Persia.
• Javan: Linked to the Ionians and ancient Greece.
• Tubal and Meshech: Associated with areas in Anatolia (Asia Minor) and regions near the Black Sea.
• Tiras: Often linked to maritime or Thracian peoples in the Aegean region. 

Ham’s Descendants (Africa and the Levant)

• Cush: Settled in parts of modern-day Ethiopia, Sudan, and southern Egypt.
• Mizraim: The traditional Hebrew name for Egypt.
• Put: Associated with Libya and regions of North Africa.
• Canaan: Settled in the land of the Canaanites along the eastern Mediterranean coast (the Levant/Palestine).

In another back and forth with AI today it concluded that if one does not discount adaptation and variation within a kind with previously existing gene expressions becoming dominant or recessive within a limited breeding radius that the biblical account of the development of races and that of natural history provide a rather nice and tight agreement, with the only contingency being time.

What this means is that from all we see above of the lands and nations which came from the three sons of Noah, the olive skinned Middle Easterners arose from Shem, the predominant white European race from Japheth  and black southern and African races developed over time from Ham.

This also concords with the prophecy pronounced by Noah over his sons.

The Sin of Ham

Noah cursed Ham for taking advantage of him while he was drunk. 

The exposing of his father’s naked body was almost certainly accompanied with folding or even some sort of actual sexual deviance since the words “knew what his younger son has done TO him” implies more than simply seeing him naked. The specific word used here for “done” is used elsewhere in the Bible for fondling in a sexual way, so this may be the case here which would make the sin both familial and homosexual in nature.

The prophecy of Noah

Genesis 9:24-29, 

“(24) When Noah awoke from his drunken stupor he learned what his youngest son had done to him. (25)  So he said, 

“Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves he will be to his brothers.” 

(26)  He also said,  
“Worthy of praise is the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem!  (27)  May God enlarge Japheth’s territory and numbers! May he live in the tents of Shem and may Canaan be the slave of Japheth!”  
(28)  After the flood Noah lived 350 years. (29)  The entire lifetime of Noah was 950 years, and then he died.”

From this we see human history before it became history. 

While it IS a generalization and while it does not include Ham and all of his sons, since only Canaan is mentioned, it does provide a compelling general overview of the way human history has played out more than not.

It is interesting how the prophecy of Noah regarding the future of his sons is largely seen in their futures (our history) in the power and resources of the middle east, the territory and numbers of the white European races but their ongoing dependence upon the resources and wealth of the middle east and finally the subservient role which has largely defined much of black history. Even in modern America, many blacks live in housing and provisions made available through the whites who in turn rely upon the wealth and resources of the middle east.

Bloodline

God again shows one of His purposes in writing the Bible – to reveal the Godly lineage (bloodline) by offering ages and births for the godly line.

This genealogy God established is from father to son since the name and the bloodline follows men.

The Tower of Babel

• Man rebels against God’s established plan and order at Babel.
• We once again see God revealed as more than one entity yet fully unified in purpose by saying, “Let US confound their language”.
• Heavenly play on words. The word Babel means “gate of god”, the word used for “confound” their language means “to mix or confuse”. The result is the monument of man’s arrogance and rebellion in constructing a gateway to God, is turned into a structure representing confusion and a lack of control.
• God IS sovereign over all His creation – including man.
  • God’s purpose for man is to fill the earth – to seek Him and find Him (Act 17).
  • God forces His purpose by tinkering with mankind’s mind to create languages.
  • “The Lord God scattered them abroad” – shew!
  • Up until now all mankind spoke one language and one dialect of that language. There is MUCH in the way of proof that all human languages and dialects arose from an initial single spoken language. [See AI conclusions]
• Mankind begins to spread over the face of the earth in language groups.

We can determine where the descendants settled by some of their names just like we did with three sons.

Natural history likes to spin yarns about how mankind took over 100,000 years of development to move from simple cave dwellers to complex societies and civilizations. To support this are a very small smattering of cave drawings and human remains but the vast majority of this is suppositional and has no method of precisely tacking down time periods. Also, in many cases these humans had tools of metal and lived in caves not due to an inability to build structures, but because they were the safest dwellings from the harsher post flood environment which is associated by some as “the ice age”.

Once we flush all the assumptions and get down to hard, traceable facts which can be studied and well founded conclusions can be ascertained, we see a shockingly immediate rise of complex societies in the fertile crescent at just the right time in alignment with biblical statements regarding the disbursement of people from the plains of Shinar.

What we witness is Man’s intelligence displayed in his ingenuity of architecture, agriculture, husbandry, art, metallurgy, tools and water management.

Ancient civilizations in the Fertile Crescent mastered water control and architecture, utilizing ziggurats, complex irrigation networks, and river management to sustain major urban centers and farming. These early societies transformed the flood-prone valleys of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers into thriving hubs of trade and agriculture.  

The development of these types of civilizations and some overwhelming similarities in architecture and agrarian methods all coincide with the Biblical narrative of Man’s common progeny.

The timeline bridge between the ancient and the new

As we said earlier the flood took place at approximates 2734 B.C. The events at the Tower of Babel took place about 2634B.C. just 100 years later, which is the general time period in which you see an explosion of civilizations just appearing out of nowhere in the ancient world all around the plains of Shinar in the Fertile Crescent.

Following the flood, mankind grew in population exponentially. 

In short order, they were spreading throughout the word within language groups.

The entirety of the book of Job likely came about during the early days following this disbursement. 

The Slow Decline into the Modern Age

Based on traditional biblical genealogies and chronologies, the estimated time spans are roughly this:

• 4174 B.C. — The Year of Creation: The starting point of the biblical calendar.
• 2518 B.C. — The Great Flood: Occurs exactly 1,656 years after Creation (Genesis 5). Noah being 600 years old.
• 2417 B.C. — The Tower of Babel & Dispersion: Calculated at the birth of Peleg, 101 years after the Flood, when the text states “the earth was divided” (Genesis 10:25).
• 2168 B.C. — The Death of Noah: Noah passes away 350 years after the Flood at the age of 950 (Genesis 9:28-29).
• 2166 B.C. — The Birth of Abram (Abraham): Exactly 2,008 years after Creation, occurring a mere 2 years after the death of Noah.
• Job would have been born and lived his lifetime while Noah was still alive but following the Tower of Babel.
• 2066 B.C. – The birth of Isaac
• 2006 B.C. – The birth of Jacob
• 1915 B.C. – The birth of Joseph
• 1527 B.C. – The birth of Moses

So you can readily see that Genesis covers the vast amount of time covered in the Old Testament, from 4174-1915 B.C. 2,259 years.
